A Childhood Fueled by Creativity
Nate's story begins in California where creativity flowed like a river in his childhood home. Growing up in the 1970s, he was immersed in a world where invention and engineering were not just interests but a way of life. His father, a mechanical engineer, and his mother, a children's physical therapist, instilled in him the values of compassion, curiosity, and innovation.
At a young age, Nate's creative spirit manifested itself in his father's workshop, where he fashioned his own toys. Little did he know that these early experiments were the seeds of a journey that would transform countless lives.
The Stroller Factory and a Shining Idea
Nate's path toward becoming an inventor was set in motion at the family dinner table. One day, as Nate's mother remarked, "It's too bad you can't make a stroller for disabled kids," inspiration struck like lightning. The idea took root, and soon after, his father initiated a venture that would manufacture pediatric wheelchairs, Convaid Products Inc. Nate’s natural curiosity and passion for invention led him to go from making toys in his dad’s workshop to assisting on the factory line.
Nate split his time between schooling and working at the factory, but his dedication and passion would take him far, eventually leading to his promotion from simply assisting on the line to production welder, then into tool-making, and finally into production management.
While Convaid Products Inc. started as a small venture between Nate & his father, over the years it grew in size, eventually employing over 150 workers and impacting countless lives! Nate’s work at Convaid let him see just how big of an impact could be created from a simple idea.

Troy Technologies: A Dream Unfolds
While working at the factory, Nate had a vision of a slim, contemporary, and comfortable wheelchair – a vision that was practically unheard of at the time, but which many with limited mobility were pleading for. This vision became the foundation for Troy Technologies, a place where innovation and compassion intersect to create solutions that empower individuals with limited mobility.
Nate set out to create a line of chairs that would speak to the unique needs of the individuals using them and improve their everyday lives. After creating his initial designs and receiving and incorporating a lot of feedback, Troy Technologies launched and began to design and produce even more wheelchairs.
The Flux 360
Our first wheelchair, the Flux 360 does away with the traditional bulky, boxy, hospital-style design of wheelchairs. The FLUX 360 combines the comfort of an office chair with the support and mobility you need for an active lifestyle. Featuring a 3” padded seat cushion, ventilated back for dynamic support, and waterfall-contoured design for improved leg circulation, this chair is designed with your well-being in mind.
The Flux 360 Plus
Created based on feedback from actual wheelchair users like you, the FLUX 360 Plus gives you more options to find the chair that supports your lifestyle. As the largest FLUX wheelchair, the 360 Plus has a weight capacity of of 350 lbs and is designed with superior weight distribution keep you comfortable and safe.
The Flux Slim-Line
The Slim-line is designed to fit seamlessly into your modern home and lifestyle with a slim 21.5-inch profile. This wheelchair effortlessly navigates tight spaces and doorways – no more expensive remodeling or bruised knuckles! This ergonomic chair boasts the same great features as our standard FLUX 360, but with a more compact design.
The Flux Dart
The Dart is a lightweight, narrow wheelchair designed for ultimate convenience. With breathable stay-dry fabric and flip-up armrests for seamless transfers, this contemporary wheelchair ensures you can move effortlessly through your daily tasks. Pull up close to your desk or kitchen table, enjoy a full range of motion for your arms, and simply flip the armrests down to relax. At just 21.75 inches wide, the Dart fits through any doorway and features an attendant push bar and a tilt mechanism that locks in any position.
